The installation flat rate includes the following:
1. Inspection
- **Thorough Examination:** Inspect the current suspension system, including the leaf springs, shackles, accessories installed, and related components.
- **Interference Check:** Inform the truck's owner of any possible interference with the Sulastic shackles installation/operation and confirm if installation is feasible.
2. Preparation
- **Safety Measures:** Ensure the vehicle is securely lifted and supported to provide a safe working environment.
- **Component Access:** Remove any necessary components, obstacles, or accessories to gain access to the shackles and leaf springs.
**Note:** Includes removal and reinstallation of the bottom shock absorber's bolt and, if required, the removal and reinstallation of the lower plate of an air bag leveling kit.
3. Removal of Old Shackles
- **Loosening Bolts:** Carefully loosen and remove the bolts and nuts that secure the old shackles to the leaf springs and vehicle frame.
- **Extraction:** Extract the old shackles from their mounts without causing damage to the leaf springs or frame.
**Notes:**
- Includes lifting the bed by loosening up to six OEM bed mounts to allow the shackle's top bolt to be removed between the frame and the bed. When a 5th wheel is installed preventing lifting of the truck's bed, it is required to bend the truck's bed welded seams.
- Additional charges: $60 per bolt that requires cutting with a reciprocating saw. If oxy-acetylene torch usage is necessary to remove the shackle's bolts, the price per bolt is $100, plus the cost of bolts and hardware. The use of oxy-acetylene torch can damage other components that may be required to be replaced by a leaf spring shop, and it is not included in the price.
4. Installation of New Sulastic Shackles
- **Positioning:** Properly position the new shackles in alignment with the leaf springs and frame mounts.
- **Securing:** Insert and tighten OEM bolts and nuts to secure the shackles in place, ensuring they are torqued to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- **Reinstallation:** Reinstall and tighten the previously removed accessories on the truck.
5. Final Inspection and Road Test
- **Visual Inspection:** Conduct a final visual inspection to ensure all components are securely fastened and there are no issues.
- **Road Test:** Conduct a brief road test to confirm the vehicle’s handling and suspension performance has been improved.
